BURG/BASTION/BENTENG KOTA MUTIN

I AM LOOKING FOR SOME INFORMATIONS

ABOUT A BASTION ON THE SLOPE OF LAKAAN MONTAIN

(Near bei Lahurus, Belu - Middle -Timor, Indonesien)

On the Kota Mutin Hill (on the slope of the mount Lakaan) there are ruins of a bastion and two cannons. The people who stay around this mountain don't know who built that bastion and put those cannons. My Grandfather Baltasar, who born in 1913 said that he'd heard from his grandfather (my great great grandfather), that a long time ago Portuguese had stayed there to control the sandalwood, honey and beeswax -trade in middle Timor. We know the hill as “Kota Mutin Ren”, it means: “the hill of the white people's town”. That hill was a town for the Portuguese and it had functioned as a Bastion to protect them form the local kings and the traders from Holland.

On 1995 I did research about the bastion, but except the cross on the cannon I didn't find any other information. Because of that I'm writing on Internet. I hope that someone reads it and gives me some information about the bastion. I have also two photos from this ruins, that i took in September 2008.

DIE SUCHE NACH DER INFORMATION ÜBER EINE BURG AUF LAKAAN BERG

(in der Nähe von Lahurus, Belu – Mittel Timor – Indonesien)

Auf dem Gipfel von Kota Mutin Hügel (Lakaan Berg) gibt es die Ruinen einer Burg und zwei Kanonen. Für die Bevölkerung ist die Burg bekannt mit dem Namen „Benteng Kota Mutin“ Kota Mutin bedeutet: „die Stadt der Weißen“ Mein Großvater sagte mir, dass er von seinem Vater (meinem Urgroßvater) gehört hat, dass die Portugiesen früher dort gewohnt haben. Dieser Hügel war ihr ein Zentrum zu kontrollieren Sandelholz- und Honighandel in Mittel-Timor und als Schutz gegen die einheimische Fürsten und die Holländer.

Im Jahr 1955 habe ich eine Forschung über diese Burg gemacht. Außer dem Kreuz auf einem Kanon habe ich keine andere Information gefunden. Deswegen schreibe ich im Internet, ich denke, vielleicht liest jemand diese, und dann vielleicht ist er bereit mir einige Information zu geben. Ich habe auch zwei Fotos, die ich im September 2008 gemacht habe.

INFORMASI MENGENAI BENTENG KOTA MUTIN DI LERENG GUNUNG LAKAAN

(di dekat Lahurus, Kabupaten Belu, Timor Barat-Indonesia)

Di atas bukit Kota Mutin (di lereng Gunung Lakaan) masih terdapat sisa-sisa dari satu benteng dengan dua buah meriam. Penduduk di sekitar daerah itu mengenalnya dengan nama „benteng Kota Mutin“. Bukit itu juga disebut „kota Mutin Ren“ dalam bahasa tetun, yang berarti „bukit tempat perkampungan orang kulit putih“. Seorang Kakek saya pernah menceritakan bahwa dia pernah mendengar dari bapaknya, bahwa dulu orang Portugis pernah tinggal di sana.

Bagi orang Portugis, benteng Kota mutin merupakan pusat untuk mengontrol perdagangan Cendana, Madu dan Lilin di Timor bagian tengah. Tempat itu juga merupakan benteng perlindungan dan pertahanan bagi mereka untuk meghadapi para raja lokal dan orang-orang Belanda.

Pada tahun 1995 saya pernah membuat suatu penelitian di sana, tetapi selain salib yang diukir di atas meriam, tidak ditemukan Informasi lain dari benteng ataupun meriam itu. Karena itu saya menulis berita ini di Internet, mungkin ada yang membacanya, dan bisa membantu saya dengan memberikan sedikit informasi tentang benten itu.
